The Hungarian low-costs airline Wizz Air might build a hub in the Riga airport in the summer of 2010, Josef Varadi, chief director of Wizz Air said.
Wizz Air will fly from Riga to Oslo and London three times a week, starting March 30, 2010, and twice a week to Turku from March 28, 2010. Varadi admits that Latvia a huge growth potential, despite the recent economic slump, and the Riga airport operates very effectively and offers competitive tariffs. The decision on whether to set up a hub at the Riga airport will be made by the end of February. Ryanair has also mentioned that it might set up a hub in Riga, but so far those have been only promises.
