Cēsis – Baltic winter capital

Cēsis – medieval town famous for its romantic castle, old town and “Cēsis Art festival” in summer – is located just one hour’s drive from the Latvian capital Riga and is also known among Latvians and closest neighbours for its wide range of winter activities.

The largest ski centre

Only 5 km from Cēsis town centre ski resorts “Žagarkalns” and “Ozolkalns” provide ski slopes and snowboarding possibilities at every level – starting from easy kids’ slopes to snowboard park for extreme snowboard riders. You can enjoy slopes every working day from early afternoon till midnight and from early morning to late night at weekends. If you are beginner – do not be afraid – the experienced instructors will help you to start and get you ready for your next winter holidays in Alps. Equipment for rent available.

Excellent cross country skiing track Priekuļi Olympic centre

7 km from Cēsis in Priekuļi you will find the best tracks for cross country skiers. You are welcome to try cross country skiing on well prepared tracks also during the evenings (the tracks are lightened till 9.00 pm). Equipment for rent, call in advance (ph. 29110053).

 

Cesis Castle complex and museum – Cēsis’ most popular tourist destination. More than 800 years of the town’s history are linked to Cēsis’ Medieval Castle around which the town was built. Today the castle is a most impressive witness to the history of the Livonian knights and the birth of the Latvian nation. Don’t miss the chance to inspect parts of indoor premises in the Western Tower and the castle’s prison as well as museum’s exciting exhibitions. Opening hours: every day from 10.00 to 17.00 except Mondays.

 

Old town and ice-skating rink Take a stroll through the narrow streets of Cēsis, which still follow the medieval town plan – Rīgas Street with its a rich architectural history, the medieval St. John’s Church, try natural ice-skating rink on Rožu Square. After get a cup of warm coffee or tea at the cafes along Rigas Street or on the Vienības Square.
