“Sea city” Tallinn to open up to the sea2009-07-16
Sea Days festival to be held in Tallinn on July 17-19
Tallinn will become the cultural capital of Europe in 2011, also giving it the new nickname “Tallinn as a Sea City”. Currently, only two routes open to the sea from downtown and neither is in good working order. Tallinn's chief architect, Endrik Mand, hopes that by 2011 the sea can be seen from a “beach promenade” constructed in the city centre – and funded with European Union money. The next Sea Days will be held in Tallinn on July 17-19. Giant ships will arrive in the city from Norway, Denmark, Germany and the UK. A historic Estonian ship will also be on the scene.
