Hotel manager describes how local tourism is affected by crisis
Guntars Indriksons, manager of the Hotel Linda in Kandava, a beautiful town between Talsi and Tukums, 50 km to the east of Kuldiga, shares his opinions about how the local tourism industry is affected by the present crisis and the decisions taken by local government. He believes that tourists in Kandava may enjoy not only beautiful scenery but also interesting cultural and historical attractions, as well as use the possibilities provided by active tourism. The entrepreneur, criticising the reduction of financing to cultural events taking place in the towns of Latvia, points out that the decisions taken by local governments have a negative impact on the local tourism industry. “I understand that entrepreneurs have to work on the attraction of tourists themselves, but local government should think about various promotional marketing campaigns as well. Tourism information centres are very important to foreign travellers for the acquisition of necessary information about the particular tourism site, so the financing to such establishments should be reduced,” he says.
