Project to be put into action if he is elected mayor of Riga
Ainars Slesers, the former transport minister seeking to become mayor of Riga in the coming Latvian municipal elections, has pledged to work out a program to attract greater numbers of tourists to the city, to be put into action if he is elected. He has made it clear that to help ensure the safety of tourists who come to Latvia he will create a special tourism police department. Tourists would be able to go there for assistance at any time of the day, he said, even for comparatively minor but unpleasant offences such as dishonest taxi drivers and overcharging bartenders.
