Winemakers appeal to travel agencies2009-05-12
Wine tours could attract tourists to northernmost wineries in Europe
Latvia is hardly among the winemaking leaders of the world. But there are several decent wine producers in Latvia, Diena writes, good enough for incoming tours to include them in itineraries. Latvia has been described as the northernmost country in Europe where grapes are grown. Oskars Abramenko, the owner of a small winery, believes that travel agencies should make wine tours available, something that could even attract more tourists to Latvia. Abramenko points out that legislation does not exist to promote the development of winemaking in Latvia, but he thinks that more mini-wineries could be created so that a significant range of local wines could be offered both to locals and visitors.
