Experts: VAT must be reduced immediately2009-05-06
Legal and other experts in Latvia urge prompt reduction
In an article about the possible reduction of VAT in Latvia, experts such as Arturs Kodolins, general manager of the auditing company Kodolins, Ostaskovs and Partners, Gunta Kaulina, manager at KPMG Baltics, Ainis Dabols from the Latvian Tax Consultancy Association and Karlis Ketners, former general director of the State Revenue Service, believe that VAT should be reduced not only for tourism but for other industries as well. They cannot see why the country’s politicians have not yet taken a decisive step to do this. Kodolins thinks that VAT for tourism services should be reduced immediately, to come into force before this year’s tourism season ends. Kaulina believes that the reduction of VAT will help Latvian hotels compete with those in other countries and help them increase their marketing funds and boost tourism.
