Tourists shocked by Lithuanian ticket inspectors2009-04-14
Embassy in London forced to warn against aggressive inspections
In an incident that was bound to happen sooner or later, several British citizens now have bad memories of a recent trip to Vilnius thanks to a bus ride in which they were physically assaulted by aggressive ticket inspectors. The tourists had tickets, but they were unaware that they had to be validated in the ticket puncher since no such information was displayed in the bus. After they returned to the UK, they appealed directly to the Lithuanian Embassy, which sent a letter to various institutions in Lithuania expressing concern about the probability that such incidents occur frequently and certainly do no honour to Vilnius as the 2009 European Capital of Culture.
