Estonia awaits new burst of "vodka tourism"2008-12-01
Estonian businessmen are watching with great interest as to whether the surge in excise tax on alcohol in Finland at the beginning of next year will increase the number of vodka tourists visiting Estonia. Although Janek Kalvi, CEO of AS Liviko, comments that in Finland a half-litre bottle of vodka costs three times more than it does in Estonia, he is not optimistic about the recovery of the “vodka tourism” that became popular among Finns in 2004. Kalvi says that those Finns who have become loyal patrons will continue travelling to Estonia, but these days they are carefully choosing the cheaper stores, hunting for better prices.
