New apartment block near Maritim could tower over Riga2008-10-07
In Riga, the Maritim Park Hotel’s owners plan to expand the property and build a 17-storey apartment block nearby. However, the Latvian Board of Architects believes that such a tall block will not fit in the city’s landscape next to a park, where the 11-storey hotel is already the highest building. Hotel representative Andris Zira says that builders will also construct a 9-storey hotel block and an underground parking lot near the current hotel. He says that city development rules do allow for the construction of an apartment block of 17 storeys.
