Vilnius airport hits back at flyLAL

2008-06-09

Vilnius International Airport refutes criticism in an article published by the daily Lietuvos Rytas (June 4; Vilnius learns to walk while Riga flies away). The privately owned airline flyLAL is accused of proposing unfounded requirements and of “impertinent behaviour” regarding its plans to build its own private terminal on the territory of the publicly owned airport. Statistics given by VNO show that the losses that the airline has encountered and used for the motivation for the new terminal are in fact the company’s own fault and not the airport's. airBaltic by contrast managed to serve over 620,000 passengers at VNO in 2007 without having to build its own terminal, while flyLAL-Lithuanian Airlines served less than 475,000 in the same period.
