Foreign tourists are visiting Latvia less than they used to, so it is important to make them want to come back a second and third time, says Uldis Vitolins, director of the Latvian State Tourism Development Agency. According to the tourist board’s statistics, tourists decide to visit Latvia primarily through word of mouth, because their friends, acquaintances or relatives have recommended it. Only after that do potential visitors do more research using the Internet, travel guides and articles in the press. Now Latvia has to think more about how to delight the foreigners once they’re here.
