Estonia tries to evolve into conference destination2008-04-17
Due to the rapid cooling of the economic climate, conference organisers are turning their eyes to other countries. However, the arrival in Estonia of conference organisers from abroad is a feared possible future development. Three market leaders, Parnu Konverentsid, Aripaev and Konverentsikeskus, are gaining from organising so-called idea conferences, the estimated annual market volume of which last year was nearly EEK 100 million (EUR 6.4 million). Conference organisers and tourism enterprises have established an organisation, Konverentsiburoo, to promote Estonia into an international conference destination. They hope to emulate Helsinki, which is among the 20 biggest conference destinations worldwide. However, Estonian hotels and events venues are only able to provide services for comparatively small events with up to 500 participants.
