airBaltic expands in the Middle East by announcing Tehran, Iran

On June 8, Latvian national airline airBaltic will launch flights between Tehran, Iran, and Riga for passengers travelling via the Latvian capital to/from Europe, Scandinavia, CIS countries, and the Baltic region.

Number of airBaltic passengers grows by 20% at its Riga base in January

Latvian airline airBaltic carried overall 199,085 passengers in January 2010 (from Riga, Vilnius and Tallin), representing 12% more than in the same month in 2009, when airBaltic transported 177,197 passengers. In January of this year, the number of passengers at the base of airBaltic in Riga has increased by 20% compared to the same period last year.


airBaltic to Increase Number of Flights to Brussels

Leonardo da Vinci Makes Historic First Flight

Last night the self-portrait of Leonardo da Vinci took a flight for the first time in history, after receiving approval from Italian authorities. Leonardo da Vinci (the so-called Lucanian Portrait) travelled airBaltic route from Rome via Riga to Tallinn, accompanied by a group of scientists, art historians and officials.

RIGA continues its strong growth in 2010 welcoming 297 659 passengers or 16 per cent (40 974 passengers) more than in January 2009 when 256 685 passengers were served.

Romanian airline TAROM opens flights from RIGA International Airport

On 29 March, as the summer flight schedule sets in, RIGA International Airport will welcome its third new airline so far this year – the Romanian national carrier TAROM. The Romanian airline will operate four flights a week between Riga and Bucharest.


airBaltic to Launch Four New Routes from Vilnius

Latvian national airline airBaltic will launch new flights from Vilnius to Dublin, Hamburg, Manchester, and Oslo, thus offering already 13 direct flight routes from Vilnius. airBaltic will start direct flights to Dublin on March 29, to Hamburg on March 30, and to Manchester on March 31. The airline will operate the first flight to Oslo on May 17.

 


Wizz Air to land in Riga

The Hungarian low-costs airline Wizz Air might build a hub in the Riga airport in the summer of 2010, Josef Varadi, chief director of Wizz Air said.

airBaltic to Launch Flights From Riga to Amman and Beirut

In June, the Latvian national airline airBaltic will launch flights from Riga to the Jordanian capital city of Amman and the Lebanese capital of Beirut. Nonstop flights to Amman will begin on June 1, and the first flight to Beirut will be offered on June 2.
